I was at Ulta the other day to buy L'Oreal's Infallible Gel Lacquer Liner and had a coupon where I could get $3.50 off of $10. The gel liner, however, was only $8.99, so I looked around and came upon these Revlon Lipstains. Who could pass up the adorable packaging? And, an added plus? It was buy one get one 50% off! ;)
The two that I got are Sweetheart Valentine and Cherish Devotion. I actually enjoy these balm stains a lot because they apply smoothly and don't accentuate chapped lips. They fade throughout the day, but I think that's the best part. A few hours later, my lips have a nice tint to it giving my lips a natural-but-better-than-my-natural-lip-color-look. I don't have to reapply that often as well! I think the "balm" part of the stain just helps in initial application, but wouldn't be able to substitute an actual lip balm.
The color looks like the color of the packaging! |
Sweetheart Valentine (left): vibrant hot pink that gives the look of just having eaten a lollipop
Cherish Devotion (right): a light, nude-y pink
Packaging: 9.5/10
Color Pay-Off: 8.5/10
Moisturizing: 7/10
Application: 9/10
Overall Rating: 8.5/10
I haven't tried out any of the other high end lip stains that have similar packaging to the Revlon Balm Stains, so I can't compare, but for $8.99 compared to Clinique's Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm for $16 or Tarte's LipSurgence Lip Tint for $24, I'll stick to the Revlon Balm Stains for now.. :)
