how to get the "perfect" curls

grace's way: curling hair (video included)

If I ever get any requests from having this blog (besides the ones from my friends who see this as an easy way to see what I own and borrow my stuff ;)...), it's how to curl my hair. So if you were ever curious about how I curled my hair in any of my previous posts (including the one shown above), keep on reading. How-to video, Tips and Product Details are included.

I've been mulling over how I wanted to show you guys how I do it because I didn't want to make a video but at the same time, I felt that filming it was the best way ... so I sucked it up and finally made a video on the last day I was home! Considering that it was the first time I ever recorded anything ... I ran into some technical difficulties. While I was curling, the camera stopped recording at 5 minutes so I only got a third of the actual process ... (since it's a 2 minute video, you may be wondering where the 5 minutes went ... well to be honest, I tried to make an intro speech but kept on failing because I hadn't planned what I wanted to say so at the fourth minute, I just decided to start curling so I only really got a minute of the process...whoops!). But I did try to salvage what I had into somewhat of a tutorial... so here's the best worst tutorial ever! Hope you enjoy!
I'll probably redo the video sometime in the (not near) future if I feel that people actually want to see it! The best thing to take away from this video is how I use my straightener, which is why I decided to upload this video anyway. Honestly, just follow my hand movement while watching the video. Monkey see, monkey do, my friends.

Tips and Product details  are below the video!

Tips:
  1. This method works with any straightener. Thinner straighteners will produce tighter curls; wider straighteners will produce bigger curls.
  2. For more volume, curl random strands in the opposite direction so that the curls can "fight against" each other, rather than twisting into each other.
  3. Always section hair so that you know that no strands are left behind!
  4. What was left out of the video: Leave the last two strands that frame your face as the last ones you curl. In my opinion, those two strands are the ones that matter since they're the ones that will ... well, frame your face!
  5. Brush through curls with your fingers to keep curls intact.
  6. Brush through curls with a hairbrush to make them bigger/voluminous/wavier. It might turn out bigger than you like though!
  7. Hairspray if you have stubborn hair! I don't use hairspray because my hair holds curls pretty well, but this is different for every person.
  8. Use heat protectant! I ran out, but this is the one I typically use before blow drying/curling/straightening my hair: Tresemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray. There are a ton of different products like this though!
